Qualifying Examinations held for EE and ECE programs

The College of Engineering (COE) held qualifying examinations for two of its programs, BS Electrical Engineering and BS Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) last April 15th.

the exam is administered to both sophomores and juniors, and covers all mathematics and science subjects from fist to second year. Junior students will tackle topics covering mathematics, general engineering and applied sciences, as well as major subjects in the third year.

The exam supports the drive to prepare students for the engineering licensesure exams, and match the students skills with the demands of the profession. The exam is an initiative that is an addition to the standard board review conducted by the COE.

LPU-L holds second annual Board of Advisers meeting, industry advisers praise practice

The Palaestra Consortio Office (PCO) of Lyceum of the Philippines University – Laguna (LPU-L) organized the second annual  College Board of Advisers Meeting (BOA) last 30 April 2013 at the The Palms Country Club, Alabang.

The affair was formally opened by the President, Peter P. Laurel.  The activity aims to solicit insights from the industry and other stakeholders on improving the curriculum that is more industry-linked.

Each college had the opportunity to discuss their respective Program Educational Objectives and updates on the progress of the actions items from the previous meeting. Reactions from industry have been generally positive, one panelist praised the move as a “good practice that all scools should do.”

The College Board of Advisers comprises of LPU-Laguna alumni, representatives from the industry and the professional society. Deans and 16 key faculty members from CAS, CBA, CCS, CITHM and COE participated. A total of 26 College Board of Advisers attended the meeting.

PCO Director Christopher Torres said that this year’s BOA go a long way in solidifying LPU-L’s relationships with its various partner companies.

“Building on last year, many of our advisers continue to express support for continued dialogue. We will work to ensure that the feedback we gain from here finds its way into the classroom, and the teaching educational experience of our students as a whole.” He said.

The first College Board of Advisers meeting was held at LPU-Laguna Board room last April 13, 2012.

CCS faculty holds annual team building session; bonds re-forged, and knowledge gained

Lyceum of the Philippines Laguna’s (LPU-L) College of Computer Studies (CCS) fanned the flames of camaraderie last March 6 during their college Team Building Activity e Electronics Laboratory. Students, student leaders, faculty members, staff and the dean of the college take part in this event.

All four full time faculty members – Ms. Kristine Bobihis, Ms. Eleanor Honrade, Mr. Rey-an Baricanosa, Mr. Isaac Morallo, together with college secretary – Ms. Claribel Osena attended the event. Chairperson Ms. Mirafe Prospero; and Dean Jerald H. De La Rosa were also present.

 The affair began with the institutional prayer which was led by sir Baricanosa.Philippine  After the Dean’s opening remarks a series of sharing sessions from each CCS faculty member followed. Ms. Eleanor Honrade gave a talk on teamwork, while Ms. Kristine Bobihis delivered a lecture on team coordination and having focus.

Mr. Isaac Morallo followed with sessions on concept support systems, coaching, listening, and team learning. Mr. Rey-an Baricanosa closed the lecture series with sessions on following directions, obedience, and the virtue of courage as applied to trying new things.

Palaestra spearheads Faculty Immersion Program

The Palaenstra Consortio Office (PCO) developed and launched a Faculty Immersion Program this summer of 2012. Selected faculty members from different colleges were placed in various companies related to their field.

After months of discussion, the school’s Industry Relations Council, headed by Mr. Chris Torres, formally launched the program on April 12. The  Immersion program was also developed by the Lyceum Research Office, and the Human Resource Management and Development  Office. (HRMDO)

The Faculty Immersion Program aims to bridge the industry-academe gap by exposing faculty members to the conditions of industry. The program will serve as an avenue for the faculty members to evaluate competencies, and appreciate the expectations of the industry from professionals. It will equip the faculty member with an understanding of best industry practices which, in turn, can be brought back to improve instruction and course design.

The following members of the faculty are participating in the program : 

  • Engr. Alma Delos Santos, College of Engineering (immersed at Arktech Philippines)
  • Mr. Gilbert Sulla, College of Business and Accounting (immersed at Arktech Philipiines)
  • Mr. Johnathan Roque, College of Arts and Sciences (immersed at Media Gateway Publishing )
  • Mr. Reyann Bariccanosa, College of Computer Studies (immersed at Redcore IT Solutions)
  • Ms. Maureen Perez , College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (immersed at Dusit Thani)

The program lasts for six weeks. During this time, the immersed faculty are also expected to produce a white paper which they will share in a forthcoming research colloquium.  The research will be used to benefit both the partner firm and the college.

Palaestra Consortio ‘Gears Up for the Future’ with 2013 Job Fair

The Palaestra Consortio Office (PCO) organized and held the annual Job Fair last April 15, 2013 at the LPU-Laguna Gym. This year’s theme was: “Gearing Up for the Future”.

 The event was formally opened by the Executive Vice-President, Dr. Oscar Bautista. PCO Director, Mr. Christopher Torres, shared important insights concerning job market trends and their implications for the school setting.

Jobstreet.com Senior Marketing Officer Czarinna Camille M. Cuecueco laid down the do’s and don’ts for job interviews and gave tips on landing a job. Jobs180 Managing Director Kim Chua presented an alternative e-resume.

The College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM), the College of Engineering (COE), and the College of Allied Medicine (CAM) registered the three highest attendance rates. A total of 340 graduates came to the affair. Each received a tribute shirt from the LPU-Laguna Alumni Society.

CITHM won the major prize in the raffle draw which was an iPad mini. Minor prizes of HBC gift packs and Jobs180 tumblers were given away as well.

"Gearing Up for the Future"  2013 was co-sponsored by Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dairy Queen, KFC, Globe Telecoms, Picture City, and HBC.

Calling all aspiring photographers; CAS to hold photography workshop

ATTENTION ALL PHOTOGRAPHY ENTHUSIASTS! The College of Arts and Sciences will hold a three-day photography workshop.

When: May 9, 10, and 11, 2013
Time: 8:00AM - 5:00PM
Venue: Lyceum of the Philippines Laguna Mass Comm Laboratory

**The workshop is open to interested students and professors. The workshop size will be a maximum of 25 participants (first come first served).

There will be a workshop fee of PhP3,500 for three days.
